District Governor Cassy Venters (sitting, lower left) visited the Blue Springs Rotary Club on Wednesday, October 1, 2014. Governor Cassy gave a brief history of how Rotary has shaped her life. She congratulated the club for historically being a strong club, with increasing our membership and our contributions to The Rotary Foundation. The Blue Springs club is typically in the top 5 clubs in our district in Foundation giving.

She also challenged the club to think about the future of Rotary in Blue Springs. She listed several reasons younger adults find it hard to become Rotarians. One reason is family commitments. Rotary clubs need to encourage "family friendly" meeting times and places, along with projects that encourage family participation. Another reason is many people don't think they are welcome, or haven't been asked to visit. Others think Rotary has too many "rules"....so Rotary's challenge is to encourage and incorporate new ideas without throwing out the "traditions", that separate Rotary from other service organizations..

Cassy was accompanied by her husband, PDG Jerry Venters.
